How the Five Compare on the Numbers
A drawer is a fixed width, and a cereal canister is the wrong shape for one: tall, square in plan, and sold in fours. The only figure that decides whether a set goes in is the width of one canister, and most listings in this pool publish a carton instead, because a carton is what the warehouse measured.
Three of these five publish a canister width, at 4.7 in, 4.75 in and 5.1 in. The other two describe themselves as having a narrow body and being slim, and publish no canister figure of any kind. Both of those two supply four canisters, so the difference between a stated figure and an adjective is multiplied by four.
What the table cannot tell you is whether the lid clears the drawer runner. Three of these five publish a height for the body and none publishes the extra a clamp, a flip top or a locking tab adds above it. On the ENLOY set the clamp sits above a body published at 3.54 inches, and that clamp is unmeasured.
The Three That Publish a Width
Three Widths Within Half an Inch
ENLOY publishes 4.7 inches across for every canister in its four piece set, and pairs it with four different heights: 3.54, 4.72, 5.9 and 7.48 inches. Rubbermaid publishes 4.75 inches on a single canister measured at 4.75 by 10.25 by 9.38 inches. Shazo publishes 5.1 inches on a body stated at 10.8 by 5.1 by 11.2 inches. The three widths sit within half an inch of each other.
For a narrow drawer the ENLOY set is the only one that can be laid down rather than stood up. One of its four canisters is published at 3.54 inches tall and 4.7 inches across, so it fits a drawer either way round, while another is 7.48 inches and has to lie on its side in anything shallow.
Round Against Square
ENLOY is also the only round set here, which changes the arithmetic. Four 4.7 inch circles in a row take the same run of drawer as four squares of that width and waste the corners between them, which on a 4.7 inch canister is a real loss. None of the square picks publishes a width to do that sum with at all.
Rubbermaid and Shazo both publish all three figures, and both are single tall bodies rather than sets: one canister at 18 cup from Rubbermaid, two at 6.3 L each from Shazo. Standing either in a drawer means a drawer at least 9.38 or 11.2 inches deep from base to runner, and both listings sell the shape as stackable and space efficient, which is a cupboard claim rather than a drawer one.
The Two That Use an Adjective Instead
A Narrow Body and a Slim Box
FOOYOO states that its cereal container has a narrow body which requires less space, and publishes no canister dimension at all. Its only figures are 4 L of capacity, given as 135.2 oz, and package dimensions of 9.65 x 9.65 x 4.5 in for a four piece set. Utopia Kitchen calls its containers slim home organization and storage boxes and publishes 4 L, given as 135 oz, with a package of 7.8 x 9.5 x 12.9 in.
Neither adjective can be checked. A four pack whose carton is 9.65 inches square and 4.5 inches deep tells you something about how the canisters nest flat in transit and nothing about the footprint of one standing up. The 4 L capacity is identical on both, so the two sets hold the same and publish nothing to compare their shapes with.
What They Publish Instead
Both spend their detail on labeling and sealing rather than size. FOOYOO publishes sixteen reusable labels and a marker, a four sided locking lid with a silicone seal, and a hole in the lid for pouring without opening it. Utopia publishes plain stickers and a white chalkboard marker, an airtight leakproof lid, and a patented design it credits with easy pouring and space saving.
Utopia also publishes the only unusual care instruction on this page, recommending a soft cloth for washing to avoid scratching, and stating that the containers are refrigerator safe. The other four picks all state dishwasher safe, so Utopia is asking for more work than any of them and does not say why.
Capacity Against Shape
Four Liters, Eighteen Cups, or Sixty Five Ounces
The capacities on this page are published in four different units. ENLOY gives 28, 32, 38 and 65 fl oz for its four graduated canisters. Rubbermaid gives 18 cup and adds that it fits an entire 32 ounce box of cereal, which is the only listing here that states what a real package of food does. Shazo gives 6.3 L and 213 oz, and FOOYOO and Utopia both give 4 L.
That makes the sets hard to compare and easy to mis-buy. Four ENLOY canisters at 28 to 65 fl oz hold less between them than one Shazo at 213 oz, and a buyer looking at a narrow drawer wants both numbers at once: how much it holds and how wide it is. Only ENLOY, Rubbermaid and Shazo publish both.
Weight Runs With Count and Material
ENLOY publishes 1.72 lb for four stainless steel canisters, which is the lightest published purchase here. Shazo publishes 2.6 lb for two, FOOYOO 3.52 lb for four and Utopia 4.1 lb for four, the heaviest purchase on this page. Rubbermaid publishes no weight at all for its single canister.
The steel set being the lightest is worth a second look. ENLOY’s canisters are 4.7 inches across and between 3.54 and 7.48 inches tall, so they are much smaller vessels than the 4 L plastic boxes, and the weight reflects volume rather than material. It is the only set on this page whose canisters are different sizes from each other.
Which One Fits Your Kitchen
The cook with one shallow drawer. ENLOY publishes 4.7 inches across on all four canisters and heights of 3.54, 4.72, 5.9 and 7.48 inches, in 410 stainless with clear clamp lids, dishwasher safe, at 1.72 lb. The 3.54 inch one fits a drawer standing up.
The cook storing one box of cereal. Rubbermaid publishes a single canister at 4.75 by 10.25 by 9.38 inches, 18 cup, stated to fit an entire 32 ounce cereal box, in shatterproof Tritan with a flip top for one handed pouring and both lid and base dishwasher safe.
The cook buying in bulk. Shazo publishes two canisters of 6.3 L, given as 213 oz, stated at 10.8 by 5.1 by 11.2 inches and 2.6 lb for the pair. It is the largest published capacity here, in BPA free plastic with a four sided snap locking lid.
The cook who labels everything. FOOYOO supplies four 4 L canisters with sixteen reusable labels and a marker, four sided locking lids with silicone seals and a pour hole, dishwasher safe, at 3.52 lb. It calls the body narrow and publishes no width.
The cook who wants a chalkboard marker. Utopia Kitchen supplies four 4 L canisters with plain stickers and a white chalkboard marker, an airtight leakproof lid and a refrigerator safe body, at 4.1 lb. It asks for a soft cloth rather than a dishwasher and calls itself slim.
What We Could Not Verify
These are the figures a drawer buyer needs and this pool does not publish.
- Two of the five describe themselves as narrow or slim and publish no canister dimension at all.
- No listing publishes the height a clamp, a flip top or a locking tab adds above the body.
- Shazo publishes 2.6 lb for two canisters and no figure for one, so there is no per canister weight.
- Rubbermaid publishes no weight at all for its single canister.
- Utopia asks for a soft cloth to avoid scratching and never says what would scratch.
- The five capacities are published in four different units, so no two of them compare directly.
