How the Five Compare on the Numbers
These five are sold under one search term and built for three different jobs. splash n color and Jyzxvyzn are dry grounds trays that sit under a grinder chute. Rattleware and Happy Reunion are liquid drip trays, one steel and one plastic with a honeycomb grid. Tuni is a knock box, which catches a tamped puck rather than loose grounds. Only two of the five are grounds trays at all.
The figures follow the job. Jyzxvyzn is 4.73 by 3.54 inches with a 0.51 inch lip and weighs 0.07 pounds. splash n color is 8.7 by 4.9 inches with a 1 inch lip at 0.15 pounds. Rattleware is 11 by 5 by 1 inches of stainless steel at 1 pound. Happy Reunion is 6 by 6 by 1 inches and ships two. Tuni is 5.5 inches across and 6 inches deep.
What the table cannot tell you is whether a tray will fit, because the two genuine grounds trays are each cut for one named grinder. splash n color states it matches the footprint of one specific burr grinder and Jyzxvyzn names a different one. Three candidates were left out: a mesh basket that filters coffee rather than catching it, a grease strainer with nothing to do with coffee, and a distribution tool whose stand holds a small internal grounds compartment, which catches grounds off a whisk rather than off a counter.
Grounds, Drips or Pucks
The two trays actually made for grounds
A dry grounds tray and a liquid drip tray look alike and are not interchangeable. splash n color states its job directly: it slides under a grinder and collects the stray particles that escape during dosing and grinding. Jyzxvyzn says the same thing in different words, a shallow basin with raised perimeter edges sitting below the dispensing area to give loose grounds a defined landing area.
Both also describe the workflow problem the tray solves. splash n color says the point is not wiping the counter after every use and not finding grounds behind the brewing station. Jyzxvyzn says its open front leaves the grinding zone reachable for portafilter handling. Neither publishes a capacity, so how many doses a tray takes before it has to be emptied is nowhere stated.
Why a liquid drip tray is not the same thing
Rattleware and Happy Reunion are both built for liquid. Rattleware describes catching spills and drips from beverage dispensers, coffee machines and beer taps, in stainless steel at 11 by 5 by 1 inches. Happy Reunion is a 6 inch octagonal plastic tray with a honeycomb grid, which exists so a cup can stand above the liquid it drips rather than in it.
The grid is the tell. On a liquid tray a grid keeps the cup out of the puddle. Under a grinder, a grid is the thing you have to pick dry grounds out of. Neither of those two listings mentions coffee grounds anywhere. They will hold spilled grounds perfectly well, and they will be more work to empty than a plain shallow basin with nothing in it.
Lip Height, Footprint and Fit
Half an inch of wall against a full inch
The lip is what keeps grounds inside. Jyzxvyzn publishes 0.51 inches of height, splash n color 1 inch, and both liquid trays 1 inch as well. Half an inch holds grounds that fall straight down and loses the ones that bounce, which is what happens when a chute dumps a whole dose rather than trickling it out slowly.
Height is also what decides whether a tray gets in the way. A 1 inch tray raises nothing, because it sits beside the machine rather than under it, but it stands a full inch proud of the counter where a portafilter has to pass. Jyzxvyzn makes that trade deliberately, describing its form as low profile and compact around the grinder base.
Two trays cut for two different grinders
This is the part that decides the purchase before any figure does. splash n color states it is engineered to match the footprint of one named burr grinder and sits flush underneath it. Jyzxvyzn names a different grinder and says the tray extends across the front of that machine’s base. Neither is a universal tray, and the wrong one leaves you with a tray that does not line up.
The other three fit anything, because they are shaped around nothing. Rattleware says any dispenser or appliance. Happy Reunion says any bar, coffee station or kitchen. Tuni says most espresso machines and portafilters. That universality is the compensation for their not being grounds trays: a plain rectangle catches whatever happens to land in it.
Steel, Plastic and Keeping It Clean
Steel, ABS and one tray that names no material
Rattleware and Tuni are both stainless steel and say so. splash n color names ABS and says it resists coffee staining over repeated daily cycles, which is the specific way a plastic tray under a grinder fails. Happy Reunion says only plastic. Jyzxvyzn names no material at all, on the tray with the lowest published lip of the five.
Weight follows the material closely. Rattleware is the heaviest of the four that publish one, at 1 pound, which is about what a sheet of stainless that size weighs. Happy Reunion is 0.84 pounds for two plastic trays. splash n color is 0.15 pounds and Jyzxvyzn 0.07, and at that weight a tray stays where it was put only because nothing pushes it.
What each one says about cleaning
splash n color gives the most complete routine: pull the tray out, tip the grounds into a bin or a compost heap, slide it back, and wipe it with a damp cloth. Jyzxvyzn describes lifting and tipping without mentioning a cloth. Rattleware says its smooth non-porous surface wipes or rinses. Happy Reunion publishes no cleaning instruction whatever.
Tuni is the only one with a part that comes out. Its rubber knock bar detaches so the inside of the vessel can be cleaned properly, and the same bar is what reduces knocking noise and keeps a portafilter from being scratched. On a container that holds wet spent grounds, a removable interior part is worth more than a wipe clean surface.
Which One Fits Your Kitchen
A named burr grinder on an open counter. splash n color. An 8.7 by 4.9 inch ABS tray with a 1 inch lip at 0.15 pounds, cut to match one grinder’s footprint and stated to resist coffee staining.
A low profile tray around a grinder base. Jyzxvyzn. Published at 4.73 by 3.54 by 0.51 inches and 0.07 pounds, with an open front that leaves the grinding zone reachable for a portafilter.
Spills as well as grounds. Rattleware. Eleven by 5 by 1 inches of stainless steel at 1 pound, described for dispensers, machines and taps, and the one tray here you would happily rinse in a sink.
Two stations, or a cup that drips. Happy Reunion. Two 6 inch octagonal plastic trays with a honeycomb grid, which is the shape that keeps a cup above whatever it spills rather than in it.
Espresso pucks rather than loose grounds. Tuni. Stainless steel, 5.5 inches across and 6 deep, with a detachable rubber knock bar and a non-slip base for knocking out a portafilter.
What We Could Not Verify
Six things a buyer would want that these listings do not answer.
- Capacity for either grounds tray, so neither says how many doses it holds.
- The material of the Jyzxvyzn tray, which names none.
- A published weight for the Tuni knock box.
- Whether any of these five is dishwasher safe.
- Any cleaning instruction for the Happy Reunion trays.
- Which other grinders the two named trays fit, since each names only one.
