How the Five Compare on the Numbers
These five are sold as pastry mat sets and only one of them measures the mat. Vinoil publishes about 23.6 by 15.7 inches and calls it a measuring mat. The other four list a mat as a component, mention it in an aside, or name it in the title and never again, which is worth knowing before a holiday batch is planned around it.
What they do publish is everything around the mat. Four thickness rings in two units on one set and three on another. Five biscuit cutters and a four blade scraper on a third. A marble pin with a stand, a sapele wood French pin, a silicone pin weighed to the gram. The mat is the quietest part of every listing here.
What the table cannot settle is what any of these mats is made of or how thick it is. Angadona states food grade silicone and Fymlhomi implies silicone; nobody publishes a thickness, and on a mat that has to stay flat under a loaded pin that is the figure that decides whether it creeps.
The One Set That Measures Its Mat
Vinoil Publishes Both Halves
Vinoil is the only listing here to treat the mat as a specified component. Its set bullet states a measuring pastry mat of about 23.6 inches by 15.7 inches and says the size suits dough of any size, and its pin is 17 inches of food grade 304 stainless steel rather than ordinary aluminum.
The rings are the reason to buy it for a holiday session. Four detachable sizes, 1/16, 1/8, 1/4 and 3/8 inch, published again as 2, 3, 6 and 10 mm, which is the only set of thickness figures in this pool given in two units. Roll a dozen crusts to the same ring and they bake in the same time. At 1.1 lb the set is a pin and a mat and nothing else.
What It Leaves Out
No washing instruction for either piece, no mat thickness, no cutters and no scraper. Its dimension fields, 2.5 by 17.0 by 2.5 inches, describe the pin rather than the set, which is the usual outcome when a long thin object and a flat one ship together.
For a holiday bake that means one more purchase if you want cutters, and it means the mat is documented by area alone. Against the rest of this pool, where the mat is often not documented at all, that is still the best answer on the page.
Marble, and Eight Pieces
ANNYIGUU Publishes Rings and a Stand
ANNYIGUU’s argument is temperature rather than size: cool, smooth, non porous marble that prevents sticking and keeps dough firm, which is exactly what butter pastry needs on a warm kitchen afternoon. Three removable rings at 0.12, 0.24 and 0.35 inch handle consistency, and a wooden stand keeps a heavy pin off the counter.
Six pieces are itemised: the marble pin with stainless steel handles, the stand, a pastry mat, a dough scraper and the three rings. The mat is listed and never measured. At 3.5 lb the set is more than three times the weight of the next heaviest here, which is marble doing what marble does, and it is the one pin in this pool that will chip if dropped.
Angadona Brings the Cutters
Angadona is the only set here with cutters and the only one with no pin. Eight pieces: a pastry blender with a precise scale on the handle, a dough cutter and scraper with four stainless steel blades, five round biscuit cutters in different sizes, and a food grade silicone mat stated non stick, non slip, oven safe and dishwasher safe.
For a tray of holiday biscuits that is the most directly useful box on this page, and the mat gets more adjectives here than in any other listing even without a size. The five cutters are described as different sizes and none of them is measured, so the diameters arrive as a surprise. At 0.77 lb for eight pieces it is also light.
Two Listings Where the Mat Goes Missing
Fymlhomi Publishes the Pin to the Gram
Fymlhomi publishes the most precise pin figures in this pool: 15 inches long, a 2 inch diameter, and a weight of 260 g, which it states makes the pin comfortable for long sessions. Curved wooden handles rotate freely on a non stick silicone barrel that the listing says will not crack or grow mold.
The mat is another matter. Its first bullet says the maker also has a matching silicone dough mat and oil brush, which is the language of a related product rather than a contents list, and no other bullet resolves it. This page reports that as it stands: a well specified pin, and a mat that may or may not be in the box.
muso wood Names the Mat Only in the Title
muso wood’s title reads as a 15.75 inch French rolling pin and pastry mat. Its five bullets then cover solid sapele wood, three rounds of hand sanding, a smooth finish free of indentations even around natural knots, a 15.7 inch length suited to pizza dough, cookies, bread, fondant and pies, and how to clean it.
The mat is not in any of them. No size, no material, no thickness, no washing rule. What is published is the best documented wooden pin here: tapered ends that simplify cleaning, a rinse or damp wipe then air dry, and 0.95 lb. If the mat is the reason for the purchase, this is the listing that tells you least about it.
Which One Fits Your Kitchen
A dozen crusts that match. Vinoil, a 17 inch 304 stainless steel pin with four rings at 1/16, 1/8, 1/4 and 3/8 inch, given also as 2, 3, 6 and 10 mm, with a measuring mat published at about 23.6 by 15.7 inches, at 1.1 lb.
Butter pastry in a warm kitchen. ANNYIGUU, a marble pin with stainless handles on a wooden stand, three rings at 0.12, 0.24 and 0.35 inch, a mat and a dough cutter, with non porous marble that wipes clean, at 3.5 lb.
A tray of biscuits in one go. Angadona, eight pieces with five round cutters, a bladed scraper, a pastry blender with a scale and a silicone mat stated non stick, non slip, oven safe and dishwasher safe, at 0.77 lb.
A long session without aching arms. Fymlhomi, a silicone pin published at 15 inches by 2 inches and 260 g on curved wooden handles, with a matching mat and oil brush described but not stated as included, at 0.57 lb.
A traditional tapered pin. muso wood, solid sapele wood published at 15.7 inches, hand sanded three times with tapered ends, rinsed or wiped and air dried, at 0.95 lb, with a mat named only in the title.
What We Could Not Verify
Every figure above comes from the maker’s own listing text. These are the things we went looking for and could not source in any of them.
- Four of the five publish no size for the pastry mat they are sold with.
- No listing publishes a mat thickness, which is what keeps a mat flat under a pin.
- muso wood names the mat in its title and in none of its bullets.
- Fymlhomi describes a matching mat and oil brush without stating they are included.
- Angadona describes five biscuit cutters as different sizes and measures none of them.
- Neither ring set publishes the pin diameter the rings fit over.
