How the Five Compare on the Numbers
A deep drawer is bought by height, and not one of these five publishes a height for the lid. Every dimension figure on the five sits on a multipack listing and describes the carton. Easy Fermenter publishes 4.5 by 4.0 by 5.5 inches, Hohean 4.92 by 5.51 by 4.92, Generic 3.5 by 3.5 by 1.4, JILLMO 3.38 by 3.38 by 1.18 and MiniMunch 2.75 by 2.75 by 0.1.
So the carton is what this page compares, read as the carton. It is a real published figure and it answers a real question: how much of a drawer the whole purchase takes while it waits for a batch. Two of the five also publish a weight, Easy Fermenter at 0.64 pounds and JILLMO at 0.6 pounds, both for the purchase rather than for one lid.
What the table cannot settle is which of these cartons says anything about the lid. A height of 0.1 inches on a three pack of silicone lids and a box of 4.92 by 5.51 by 4.92 inches around four stainless lids with springs are not the same kind of figure, and nothing on either listing distinguishes them. Two listings were left out of the five for a different reason: EcoPeaceful and SSIBOOTO are solid storage caps with no vent, which is a different tool.
What the Published Figures Actually Measure
Five Cartons and No Lids
The pattern is identical on all five listings. Each is sold as a multipack, so the dimension fields on the listing are the fields of the shipping box and the lid itself goes unmeasured. JILLMO’s box reads 3.38 by 3.38 by 1.18 inches for four lids, four airlocks and four grommets. Generic’s reads 3.5 by 3.5 by 1.4 inches for a two piece set with springs and valves.
Easy Fermenter’s box is published at 4.5 by 4.0 by 5.5 inches for four plastic airlock lids, with the oxygen pump sold separately. Hohean’s is published at 4.92 by 5.51 by 4.92 inches for a four pack of stainless lids with springs and silicone airlocks. MiniMunch’s reads 2.75 by 2.75 by 0.1 inches for three silicone caps and nothing else.
Two Figures That Belong to Something Else
JILLMO’s carton is 3.38 inches on two sides. Its second bullet says the lids are designed to fit standard 3.38 inch wide mouth jars, which it also writes as 86 mm. The same number is therefore both the box and the jar diameter, and the listing never says which measurement came first or whether one was copied from the other.
Generic’s size line is stranger. It reads 16 ounces, which is not a measurement of the kit at all: the title names 16, 24, 32 and 64 ounce wide mouth jars as the jars these lids fit. A size field holding a jar volume is the clearest sign on this page that these fields were filled in for a catalog rather than for a buyer with a tape measure.
What a Deep Drawer Lets You Buy
Springs, Airlocks and Loose Grommets
A shallow drawer pushes a buyer toward a low profile lid. A deep drawer does not, and that matters here because three of these five ship something that stands above the jar. Generic includes an immersion hold-down spring to press ingredients under the salt water. Hohean includes a fermentation spring as well as its airlocks. JILLMO includes four water airlocks and four silicone grommets.
Loose parts are the real storage question once height stops being one. JILLMO ships spare grommets on purpose and states a one year replacement for damaged small parts, which is close to an admission that small parts go missing. Easy Fermenter ships four airlock lids and says the oxygen pump is not included, so the purchase is complete only for the lids themselves.
The One Piece Lid, and What It Costs
MiniMunch is the opposite approach: a one piece silicone lid with a built-in self-burping vent, three to a purchase, and nothing to assemble or lose. In a deep drawer that advantage largely disappears, because the drawer can take the kit the other four ship. What does not disappear is the question of which jar it fits.
The listing is unusually direct about that. It states 70 mm regular mouth and warns in the same bullet that these lids are not sized for 80 mm wide mouth jars. It also asks you to secure the lid with a compatible 70 mm regular mouth metal screw band, which the purchase does not include. The other four picks here are all for wide mouth jars.
What Each Purchase Equips and Asks For
Jars per Purchase and the Jars Named
One purchase equips four jars from Easy Fermenter, four from JILLMO, four from Hohean, three from MiniMunch and two from Generic. For a kitchen with drawer space that is a straightforward choice rather than a compromise, because nothing in the drawer has to be traded away to get the higher count. The carton grows, and a deep drawer absorbs it.
Only two of the five put figures on the jars they fit. JILLMO names 8 to 64 ounce wide mouth jars and gives the diameter as 3.38 inches or 86 mm. Generic names 16, 24, 32 and 64 ounce jars. Easy Fermenter says wide mouth and no more, Hohean says most wide mouth mason jars, and MiniMunch gives 70 mm regular mouth.
Weights, Materials and Cleaning
Two of the five publish a weight: Easy Fermenter at 0.64 pounds and JILLMO at 0.6 pounds. Generic, Hohean and MiniMunch publish none. On materials the split is cleaner. JILLMO, Generic and Hohean all name stainless steel for the lid, Easy Fermenter names food safe plastic, and MiniMunch names silicone, which on that listing is the whole lid rather than a seal.
Cleaning is where these listings say least. JILLMO is the only one that names a method and a warning: wash the plastic airlocks with warm water only, and do not boil them. Generic says effortless to clean and Hohean says easy to clean, neither naming how. MiniMunch refers to product care instructions it does not print. Easy Fermenter says nothing about cleaning at all.
Which One Fits Your Kitchen
The reader equipping four jars at once. Easy Fermenter. Four plastic airlock lids with a leak-proof gasket, a published weight of 0.64 pounds and a carton of 4.5 by 4.0 by 5.5 inches. The oxygen pump is not included and the listing says so.
The reader who expects to lose a grommet. JILLMO. Four stainless lids with seals, four BPA-free airlocks, four silicone grommets and spares, a stated one year replacement for small parts, and a carton of 3.38 by 3.38 by 1.18 inches.
The reader who wants the vegetables held down. Hohean. A four pack of stainless lids with springs and silicone check valves, published only as a carton of 4.92 by 5.51 by 4.92 inches, with no weight anywhere on the listing.
The reader starting with two jars. Generic. Two stainless lids with immersion hold-down springs and silicone air valves, named for 16, 24, 32 and 64 ounce wide mouth jars, in a carton of 3.5 by 3.5 by 1.4 inches.
The reader with regular mouth jars and bands. MiniMunch. Three one piece silicone lids with self-burping vents for 70 mm regular mouth jars, not 80 mm wide mouth. You supply the metal screw band, and the carton height reads 0.1 inches.
What We Could Not Verify
Six things this page went looking for and could not source.
- A size for any of these five lids. Every dimension figure on the five describes the carton, so nothing here says how tall a lid stands on a jar.
- A weight for Generic, Hohean or MiniMunch. Three of these five publish none, for one lid or for the purchase.
- Whether JILLMO’s 3.38 inch carton figure is the box or the jar diameter it states in the same listing.
- A cleaning method from Easy Fermenter, and the product care instructions MiniMunch refers to but does not reproduce.
- A jar volume range in ounces from Easy Fermenter, Hohean or MiniMunch. Only JILLMO and Generic put figures to the jars they fit.
- How a carton 0.1 inches high holds three silicone lids, which MiniMunch publishes and does not explain.
