Best Spice Drawer Inserts for Cleaning Up Spilled Spice

The deciding specification is what each maker says about washing the insert, and only one of these five publishes a method, which turns out to be a prohibition.

Each pick in detail

What the listing says for it, and against it.
1 Best for a drawer you expect to wash

YouCopia SpiceLiner Adjustable Spice Drawer Liner

The only pick with a published care instruction, hand wash in lukewarm water with mild soap and not in a machine. A 10 ft foam roll cut with scissors, laid flat for more than 30 bottles at 0.86 lb.

  • For it
  • The only care instruction in the pool, with the method and the limit both stated
  • Foam that the maker says wipes clean
  • No tiers, so there is no ledge for powder to settle in
  • Cut to any width with scissors and a supplied measuring tape
  • Against it
  • Explicitly not dishwasher safe
  • More than 30 bottles, the lowest capacity here, because bottles lie flat
  • Publishes no drawer depth requirement, so the fit has to be judged by bottle height
2 Best for the most jars on a surface that resists them

MIUKAA Clear Acrylic Spice Drawer Organizer

Two millimeter acrylic in eight pieces holding up to 56 jars of 4 oz, expandable 13 to 26 in, published as not warping, rusting, staining, breaking or yellowing. It needs over 4 in of depth.

  • For it
  • Publishes the strongest material claim here: will not warp, rust, stain, break or yellow
  • Up to 56 jars of 4 oz, the largest capacity on this page
  • 2 mm acrylic named as the thickness, which nothing else quantifies
  • Expandable 13 to 26 in, more than any other listing here publishes
  • Against it
  • Publishes no washing method, only effortless maintenance
  • Needs more than 4 in of drawer depth, more than any other pick asks for
  • 2.4 lb, the heaviest published figure on this page
3 Best bamboo rack for a shallow drawer

Thalomely Bamboo Spice Drawer Organizer

Four tiers for up to 48 jars at 17 in deep and 1.4 in high, expanding 12 to 23 in, on natural solid bamboo with a smooth moisture resistant surface, at 1 lb.

  • For it
  • A smooth moisture resistant surface published for the bamboo
  • Four tiers for up to 48 jars in a 1.4 in high body
  • Expands 12 to 23 in with no assembly required
  • Publishes its drawer depth requirement first, at 3.1 in
  • Against it
  • Publishes no washing method for a wooden insert
  • Moisture resistant is not defined, so whether it can be rinsed is unknown
  • Asks for a tenth of an inch more drawer depth than an otherwise identical rack
4 Best for a drawer that clears exactly three inches

SpaceAid Bamboo Spice Drawer Organizer

Solid bamboo in the same four tier, 48 jar, 12 to 23 in expanding form at 1 lb, asking for at least 3 in of drawer depth. It publishes nothing about moisture or washing.

  • For it
  • Asks for the lower of the two bamboo drawer depths, at least 3 in
  • Four tiers for up to 48 jars, expanding 12 to 23 in
  • Solid bamboo named, with the sustainability of the material argued
  • Publishes 17 in by 1.4 in high and 1 lb
  • Against it
  • Publishes nothing about moisture, stains or washing
  • Publishes no installation note at all
  • Identical to another listing here on every figure but the depth requirement
5 Best for a wide drawer and a permanent fit

Rev-A-Shelf 36" 3-Tiered Trimmable Wooden Pull-Out S...

Maple at 33.11 by 19.72 by 1.74 in with three tiers and rear compartments, trimmable to a 10 in minimum width and dropped in. Once trimmed it belongs to that drawer.

  • For it
  • Maple wood named, with rear compartments for items other than spice
  • Trimmable, so it can be made to fit a drawer down to a 10 in minimum width
  • Publishes 33.11 by 19.72 by 1.74 in and its fields agree to four hundredths
  • A drop in installation with no hardware
  • Against it
  • Publishes no washing method, no stain claim and no moisture claim
  • Its title publishes 36 in against 33.11 in in its own specification
  • Its weight figure was not usable, so no weight is published here

Our verdict

YouCopia is the only pick with a published care instruction, hand wash in lukewarm water with mild soap and not in a machine, on a 10 ft foam roll for more than 30 bottles. MIUKAA publishes 2 mm acrylic that will not stain and holds up to 56 jars. Thalomely and SpaceAid are the same bamboo rack differing by a tenth of an inch. Rev-A-Shelf is maple, trimmed in and left there.

“A tier is a ledge for powder to settle on.”

Lush Editorial Team

What separates these five

Care instruction published YouCopia gives the method and rules out a machine. The other four publish none.
Material claim MIUKAA will not stain, Thalomely is moisture resistant, YouCopia wipes clean. SpaceAid and Rev-A-Shelf claim nothing.
Jars held MIUKAA up to 56, Thalomely and SpaceAid up to 48, YouCopia more than 30. Rev-A-Shelf publishes no count.
Drawer depth asked for MIUKAA more than 4 in, Thalomely 3.1, SpaceAid 3. Two listings publish no requirement.
Two listings, one rack Thalomely and SpaceAid publish the same bamboo rack and differ only on 3.1 in against 3.

How we chose

Priorities, not a computed score. The inputs are published specifications, so we rank by what matters most and say how much.

  1. 30% What the maker says about washingA spice drawer collects powder and oily residue, and only one of these five publishes a method for dealing with either.
  2. 25% What the material claims for itselfWill not stain, moisture resistant and wipes clean are three different promises, and two listings make none of them.
  3. 20% Whether the insert comes outFour of these five lift out of the drawer and one is trimmed to fit it permanently, which decides whether the drawer itself can ever be cleaned under.
  4. 15% Tiers against a flat surfaceAngled tiers make labels readable and give powder a ledge to settle on, and the one flat pick gives up a third of its capacity to avoid them.
  5. 10% Drawer depth the maker asks forThis runs from 3 in to more than 4, and both bamboo listings put the requirement above every other bullet for a reason.

How the Five Compare on the Numbers

Six listings sit on the fact sheet and one is left off. Suneerplay is acrylic like a pick already here, publishes one tray at 9 by 4.7 by 1.5 in with the note that combining four changes the dimensions, and says nothing at all about cleaning beyond calling itself durable. On a page about what happens after a jar leaks, it repeats a material without adding an answer.

A spice drawer collects two kinds of mess, loose powder and oily residue from a lid that was not wiped, and the insert is what both of them land in. Only one of these five publishes a care instruction. Two argue from the material, one bamboo and one acrylic. Two publish nothing about cleaning at all, and one of those two is the only wooden insert here that cannot be lifted out in one piece.

The table cannot tell you what happens to bamboo when turmeric gets wet on it, and two of these five are bamboo. Neither of those two publishes a washing method, and one of them claims a moisture resistant surface without saying whether that means it can be rinsed. The only listing in the pool that answers the question directly answers it with a prohibition.

Who Tells You How to Clean It

One Care Bullet, and It Says No Machine

YouCopia publishes a care instruction as its own bullet: wash by hand with lukewarm water and mild soap, and not dishwasher safe. It also says the foam material wipes clean. That is the complete answer, and it is the only one here. It is also the only product on this page that could plausibly go in a machine, being a flat foam liner rather than a tiered rack, which is presumably why the maker bothered to rule it out.

The rest of its design follows the same logic. It is a 10 ft roll cut to length with scissors and a supplied measuring tape, laid flat so bottles lie on their sides with labels facing up, and the maker argues that flat bottles fit round, square, tall and small containers better than angled trays do. There is no tier to trap powder in a corner.

Two Materials Making the Argument Instead

MIUKAA publishes the strongest material claim in the pool: 2 mm acrylic that will not warp, rust, stain, break or yellow. Stain is the word that matters on a spice drawer, and it is the only listing here that uses it. What MIUKAA does not publish is a method, describing maintenance as effortless and leaving the reader to guess whether that means a wipe, a rinse or a machine.

Thalomely publishes a smooth, moisture resistant surface on natural solid bamboo, which is a claim about resisting a spill rather than about recovering from one. SpaceAid, the other bamboo insert, publishes durable solid bamboo and says nothing about moisture, stains or washing at all. Rev-A-Shelf publishes maple wood and is silent on the same three questions.

What Comes Out of the Drawer and What Does Not

Four Inserts Lift Out, One Is Trimmed to Fit

YouCopia, MIUKAA, Thalomely and SpaceAid all lift out of a drawer as a unit or as eight units, which is the first requirement for cleaning underneath one. MIUKAA slides in with no tools, Thalomely needs no assembly, and YouCopia needs no adhesive or mounting of any kind.

Rev-A-Shelf is different. It is a drop in insert that can be trimmed for narrower drawers, from a minimum width of 10 in, in maple at 33.11 by 19.72 by 1.74 in. Once trimmed it belongs to that drawer, and the listing publishes nothing about lifting it out or washing it. For a spice drawer that is a real commitment, and the listing treats the fit as the whole question.

Tiers Are Where Powder Collects

Three of these five are four tier racks and one is three tier, which means angled steps with a lip at the base of each. That is what makes a label readable from above and it is also a row of ledges for cumin to settle on. MIUKAA holds up to 56 jars of 4 oz across eight pieces, Thalomely and SpaceAid up to 48 each across four layers, and Rev-A-Shelf publishes no jar count for its three tiers.

YouCopia is the only pick with no tier at all, and it accepts a real cost for that: more than 30 bottles rather than 48 or 56, because bottles lying flat take more floor than bottles standing on a slope. What it gets back is a single flat surface with nowhere for powder to lodge, and the only published way to wash it.

Where the Published Figures Stop Agreeing

Two Bamboo Racks, One Tenth of an Inch Apart

Thalomely and SpaceAid publish the same rack. Both are solid bamboo, both are four tier, both hold up to 48 jars, both expand from 12 to 23 in, both publish 17 in by 1.4 in high, both weigh 1 lb, and both publish dimension fields of 23 by 17 by 1.4 in. The only difference anywhere in the two listings is the drawer depth each one asks for: Thalomely says at least 3.1 inches and SpaceAid says at least 3.

A tenth of an inch is not a manufacturing difference, it is two people rounding the same measurement. Both listings put that notice first, above every other bullet, which tells you what the common failure is: a drawer that closes on an empty rack and catches on a full one. If your drawer clears 3.1 in the pair are interchangeable on the published evidence.

A 36 Inch Rack That Measures 33 Inches

Rev-A-Shelf’s title publishes 36 in. Its specification bullet publishes 33.11 in wide and its dimension fields read 33.15. The two measured figures agree with each other to four hundredths of an inch and neither agrees with the title, which is three inches wider. For a trimmable insert the difference matters in one direction only, since a rack can be cut down and not out.

The same listing published a weight that had to be discarded, so Rev-A-Shelf appears here with no weight at all. MIUKAA is the heaviest figure on the page at 2.4 lb for eight acrylic pieces, and YouCopia the lightest at 0.86 lb for a 10 ft roll of foam. The two bamboo racks both publish 1 lb, which is the last of several figures they share.

Which One Fits Your Kitchen

A drawer you expect to have to wash. YouCopia, the only pick with a published care instruction: hand wash in lukewarm water with mild soap, and not in a machine. A 10 ft foam roll cut with scissors, laid flat for more than 30 bottles, at 0.86 lb.

The most jars and a surface that resists them. MIUKAA, 2 mm acrylic in eight pieces holding up to 56 jars of 4 oz, expandable 13 to 26 in, published as not warping, rusting, staining, breaking or yellowing. It needs more than 4 in of drawer depth.

Bamboo in a shallow drawer. Thalomely, four tiers for up to 48 jars at 17 in deep and 1.4 in high, expanding 12 to 23 in, with a smooth moisture resistant surface, at 1 lb. It asks for at least 3.1 in of drawer depth.

The same rack, a tenth of an inch shallower. SpaceAid, solid bamboo in the same four tier, 48 jar, 12 to 23 in expanding form at 1 lb, asking for at least 3 in of drawer depth. It publishes nothing about moisture or washing.

A wide drawer and a permanent fit. Rev-A-Shelf, maple at 33.11 by 19.72 by 1.74 in, three tiers with rear compartments, trimmable down to a 10 in minimum width and dropped in. Once trimmed it belongs to that drawer.

What We Could Not Verify

Every figure above is from the maker’s own listing. These are the things we went looking for and could not source in any of the six.

  • Only YouCopia publishes a washing method, so on four of the five what to do about a spill is unstated.
  • Neither bamboo insert says whether its surface can be rinsed, and one of the two claims moisture resistance without defining it.
  • MIUKAA calls its maintenance effortless and never says whether that means a wipe, a rinse or a machine.
  • Rev-A-Shelf publishes 36 in in its title against 33.11 in in its own specification, and its weight figure was not usable.
  • Thalomely and SpaceAid publish an identical rack differing only in the drawer depth asked for, 3.1 in against 3.
  • No listing says what happens to a tier once spice powder has settled into the base of it, which is the failure this page is about.

Frequently asked questions

Which spice drawer insert can actually be washed?+

YouCopia is the only one that says. Its care bullet publishes the method and the limit together: wash by hand with lukewarm water and mild soap, and it is not dishwasher safe. It also says the foam wipes clean. MIUKAA calls its maintenance effortless without naming a method, Thalomely publishes a moisture resistant surface, and SpaceAid and Rev-A-Shelf publish nothing about washing at all.

Is acrylic or bamboo better for a spice drawer?+

On the published claims, acrylic. MIUKAA publishes 2 mm acrylic that will not warp, rust, stain, break or yellow, and stain is the word a spice drawer needs. Thalomely publishes a smooth moisture resistant bamboo surface, which is about resisting a spill rather than recovering from one, and SpaceAid publishes solid bamboo with no surface claim. Neither bamboo listing says whether it can be rinsed.

Why do two of these look like the same product?+

Because on the published evidence they are. Thalomely and SpaceAid both publish a four tier solid bamboo rack for up to 48 jars, expanding 12 to 23 in, at 17 in deep and 1.4 in high, weighing 1 lb, with identical dimension fields of 23 by 17 by 1.4 in. The single difference anywhere in the two listings is the drawer depth asked for: 3.1 inches against 3.

How deep does my drawer need to be?+

Deeper than the insert, because the jars stand on it. MIUKAA asks for more than 4 in, Thalomely for at least 3.1 in and SpaceAid for at least 3, and both bamboo listings put that notice above every other bullet, which tells you what usually goes wrong. YouCopia and Rev-A-Shelf publish no depth requirement, so on those two the clearance has to be worked out from the height of your own bottles.

Which holds the most jars?+

MIUKAA, at up to 56 jars of 4 oz across eight pieces on four tiers. Thalomely and SpaceAid both publish up to 48 across four layers. YouCopia publishes more than 30 bottles, and that lower figure is the direct cost of laying bottles flat instead of standing them on a slope. Rev-A-Shelf publishes three tiers with rear compartments and no jar count at all.

Does it matter that one insert is trimmed to fit?+

It matters for cleaning more than for fit. Rev-A-Shelf is a maple drop in at 33.11 by 19.72 by 1.74 in that can be trimmed down to a 10 in minimum width, and once it has been cut it belongs to that drawer. The other four lift out whole, or in MIUKAA's case in eight pieces, which is what lets the drawer underneath be wiped. Rev-A-Shelf publishes nothing about lifting it out.
