Best Under Sink Shelf Inserts for a Measured Fit

The deciding specification is the opening each maker asks for beyond the unit's own figure, because one publishes 12 inches wide and asks for 13.5 inside, one is 19 inches wide and asks for 21.25, and one asks for less width than it is.

VEVOR Pull Out Cabinet Organizer

VEVOR Pull Out Cabinet Organizer

The only listing here that publishes both figures and keeps them consistent. Its first bullet gives a product size of 12 inches wide by 21 deep by 15.2 high and a cabinet installation size of 13.5 inches wide by 22 deep by 19 high, then adds the instruction that matters: check for obstructions such as door hinges or pipes when measuring. Chrome-plated steel stated to resist rust and deformation and to hold up to 60 lbs, which is the highest load figure here. Four assembly steps, left or right side, with adjustable dividers and non-slip bottom pads.

Rev-A-Shelf Tip-Out Sink Tray for Kitchen Cabinets

A tip-out tray that mounts to the back of the sink front rather than standing on the cabinet floor, so it publishes the two figures that kind of fitting needs. The tray is stated at 19 inches wide by 1.69 deep by 3.0 high and is designed for a sink base cabinet with an opening width of 21.25 inches or wider. Separately it requires at least one and three quarter inches of clearance between the back of the door and the front of the sink. Stainless steel with a polished chrome finish, mounting hardware and hinges included, 1.16 lb. Its height field reads 19 inches, which cannot be right.

Our Verdict

VEVOR publishes both figures and they make sense: a unit at 12 by 21 by 15.2 inches and a stated installation size of 13.5 by 22 by 19 inside. Rev-A-Shelf asks for a 21.25 inch opening for a 19 inch tray, plus 1.75 inches behind the door. REALINN states an assembled 14.2 inches wide and then asks for an interior of at least 11. Fabutier and GEMWON publish only their own ranges.

What Separates These Five

Three publish an opening, two do not VEVOR asks for 13.5 by 22 by 19 inches inside. Rev-A-Shelf asks for an opening 21.25 inches wide. REALINN asks for 11 by 15 by 16. Fabutier and GEMWON publish only their own dimensions.
One asks for less than it measures REALINN states an assembled 14.2 inches wide and a required interior of at least 11 inches wide, in the same bullet. The two cannot both describe the same frame.
Only one publishes door clearance Rev-A-Shelf needs at least one and three quarter inches between the back of the door and the front of the sink. It is the only listing here that measures that gap at all.
One range, two fixed, two stepped GEMWON telescopes 16.5 to 30.7 inches in length and 13.19 to 16.73 in height. Fabutier has three named settings. VEVOR, Rev-A-Shelf and REALINN publish one size each.
Four load figures, four different scopes VEVOR states 60 lbs, REALINN 50 lbs total, Fabutier 50 lbs, GEMWON 50 lbs per tier. Rev-A-Shelf publishes none. Only two of the four say what the figure covers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which of these tells me what my cabinet needs to be?+

Three of the five. VEVOR publishes a cabinet installation size of 13.5 inches wide by 22 deep by 19 high alongside a product size of 12 by 21 by 15.2. Rev-A-Shelf says its 19 inch tray needs a sink base cabinet with an opening of 21.25 inches or wider. REALINN publishes a required interior of at least 11 by 15 by 16 inches. Fabutier and GEMWON publish neither, and both ask you to measure first.

What is wrong with the REALINN fit bullet?+

It gives two figures that contradict each other in one sentence. The assembled dimensions are stated as 14.2 inches wide by 10.6 deep by 11 high, and the required cabinet interior as at least 11 inches wide by 15 deep by 16 high. A 14.2 inch frame will not go into an 11 inch opening, and a 10.6 inch frame does not need 15 inches of depth. The likeliest explanation is that width and depth are swapped in one of the two, and the listing never says which.

Why does the Rev-A-Shelf tray need two clearances?+

Because it is the only pick here that mounts rather than stands. It bolts to the back of the sink front with the included hardware and hinges, so it needs the cabinet opening to be 21.25 inches or wider for the 19 inch tray to clear, and separately at least one and three quarter inches between the back of the door and the front of the sink basin for the tray to tip into. Neither figure substitutes for the other.

Which one adapts to a cabinet I have not measured?+

GEMWON, and its own listing is honest about the limits of that. The length telescopes from 16.5 to 30.7 inches, the height from 13.19 to 16.73, the width is fixed at 11.2, and a side panel comes off to clear a U or P-shaped pipe. The same bullet then states that if you are unsure whether your cabinet fits, the maker does not recommend purchasing. That is a warning worth taking at face value.

Which holds the most weight?+

On the published figures, VEVOR at up to 60 lbs for the chrome-plated steel frame. GEMWON states 50 lbs per tier, which across two tiers is a larger total but is a different kind of statement. REALINN states up to 50 lbs and calls it a frame total. Fabutier states up to 50 lbs without saying what it covers. Rev-A-Shelf publishes no load rating at all, which for a tray that holds a sponge is less of a gap.

Is the Rev-A-Shelf height field usable?+

No. Its dimension fields read 19.0, 1.69 and 19.0 inches, and the bullet states 19 inches wide by 1.69 deep by 3.0 high. A tray cannot be as tall as it is wide and also 3.0 inches high, so the third field looks like the first repeated. We used the bullet, 3.0 inches, and that matters here: a tip-out tray's height is what decides whether it clears the sink basin as it swings.

How the Five Compare on the Numbers

Seven live pages already rank this pool: by load rating, by published width and depth, by weight against how many units it covers, by what the load figure describes, by what each maker says fits inside, by the range the shelf adjusts through, and by what the box contains. All seven read the unit’s own figures, which is the half of the question a buyer can act on after the thing arrives.

The other half is the opening. Three of these five publish one, and the three do it differently: a full interior in all three directions, an opening width with a separate door clearance, and an interior that is smaller than the frame it is meant to hold. Two publish nothing and tell you to measure. That split is the ranking here.

What the table cannot tell you is where the door hinge sits, and that is the figure every one of these installations actually fails on. VEVOR is the only listing of the five that mentions it, in an aside: check for obstructions such as door hinges or pipes when measuring. Nobody publishes a hinge allowance, and on a frameless cabinet with a concealed hinge the usable opening is narrower than the box.

The Three That Publish an Opening

VEVOR Gives Both Figures and They Agree

The first bullet on the VEVOR listing reads: product size 12 inches wide by 21 deep by 15.2 high; cabinet installation size 13.5 inches wide by 22 deep by 19 high. Those two sentences are the whole of what a buyer needs, in the right order, and the pair is internally consistent in all three directions with clearance on each.

The height gap is the interesting one. A unit 15.2 inches tall asking for 19 inches of interior is asking for room to lift things out of the upper tier, not just to slide the frame in. No other listing in this pool explains the difference between a unit height and an installed height, and VEVOR does not explain it either, but it publishes the number.

Rev-A-Shelf Measures the Door as Well

A tip-out tray is a different problem from a shelf on the cabinet floor, and this listing publishes the two figures that problem needs. The tray is 19 inches wide by 1.69 deep by 3.0 high and is designed for a sink base cabinet with an opening width of 21.25 inches or wider. Then, separately: requires at least one and three quarter inches of clearance between the backside of the door and the front of the sink.

That second figure is unique in this pool. It is the only measurement any of these sixteen listings takes of the gap behind a cabinet door, and it is the gap that decides whether a tip-out can swing at all. The listing also publishes no load rating, which for a rag and sponge holder in stainless steel is a reasonable omission rather than a gap.

One Listing That Asks for Less Than It Is

Fourteen Point Two Inches Into Eleven

REALINN’s fit bullet does the right thing and then contradicts itself. Assembled dimensions: 14.2 inches wide by 10.6 deep by 11 high. Requires cabinet interior of at least 11 inches wide by 15 deep by 16 high. A frame 14.2 inches across does not enter an 11 inch opening, and a frame 10.6 inches deep does not need 15 inches of depth to stand in.

Read the two together and the explanation is almost certainly a transposition: the required interior is probably 15 inches wide by 11 deep, or the assembled figure is 10.6 wide by 14.2 deep. Either reading makes the bullet sensible and the listing offers no way to choose. We have printed both as published and recommend measuring both directions before ordering this one.

Why It Matters More Than It Looks

The temptation is to treat this as a typo and move on, and for most products that would be fair. Under a sink it is not, because the cabinet is the one thing in the equation that cannot be adjusted, and the trap and the disposal already eat into one direction. A buyer who plans around 11 inches of width and receives a 14.2 inch frame has bought the wrong object.

The rest of the REALINN listing is unusually clear by comparison. The narrow top basket mounts left or right to clear the plumbing, the frame is all metal with a baked-on coating stated to 50 lbs total, the mesh drains instead of pooling, and the main frame arrives pre-assembled with no drill. One bullet out of seven is the problem.

The Two That Make You Do the Arithmetic

Fabutier Publishes the Top Shelf Instead

Fabutier states a single unit at 14 inches deep by 10.8 wide by 12.8 to 15.35 high, and then does something the others do not: it publishes the top shelf width separately, at 5.12 inches. On an L-shaped unit that is the figure that tells you how much of the width the narrow half takes, which is exactly what you need to know about the pipe it steps around.

It also itemizes its three height settings, 12.8, 13.58 and 15.35 inches, and states up to 12 inches of clearance under the top shelf. What it will not do is name an interior. The bullet says to measure the depth, width and height of your cabinets, as well as the space on either side of the pipes above, before placing your order, and leaves the clearance allowance to you.

GEMWON Publishes a Range and a Warning

GEMWON’s approach is to make the unit fit rather than to specify the cabinet. Fixed width 11.2 inches, length telescoping from 16.5 to 30.7, height from 13.19 to 16.73 across named holes, removable side panel for a U or P-shaped pipe, and a published minimum and maximum size rather than a single figure.

Its own first bullet then says, in capitals, to measure the cabinet before purchase, and adds that if you are unsure whether your cabinet fits the maker does not recommend buying. That is the clearest statement in this pool about who carries the fit risk. The parts list backs up the seriousness: eight ABS panels at 11 by 6.3 inches, four extension rails, two tubes, twelve screws, two caps and two wrenches.

Which One Fits Your Kitchen

You want the install figure before you order. VEVOR. A unit at 12 by 21 by 15.2 inches and a stated cabinet installation size of 13.5 by 22 by 19, rated to 60 lbs. Check the depth first: 21 inches is a deep base.

The cabinet floor is already full. Rev-A-Shelf, a 19 by 1.69 by 3.0 inch tip-out tray for an opening 21.25 inches or wider, needing one and three quarter inches behind the door. It is the only pick here that uses the door.

A waste pipe in one corner. REALINN, an L-shape stated at 14.2 by 10.6 by 11 inches with the top basket on either side, 50 lbs for the frame. Measure both directions: its two fit figures contradict each other.

Two cabinets and tall bottles. Fabutier, two units at a stated 14 by 10.8 by 12.8 to 15.35 inches, three named heights, a 5.12 inch top shelf and up to 12 inches of clearance beneath it.

You do not know the cabinet yet. GEMWON, telescoping 16.5 to 30.7 inches in length and 13.19 to 16.73 in height on a fixed 11.2 inch width. Its own listing says not to buy if you are unsure of the fit.

What We Could Not Verify

These are the specifications we went looking for in all five listings and did not find.

  • A required cabinet interior from Fabutier or GEMWON, in a bullet or a field.
  • Which of REALINN’s two fit figures is right, the 14.2 inch assembled width or the 11 inch required interior.
  • A door hinge allowance from any of the five. VEVOR mentions hinges and publishes no figure.
  • A load rating for Rev-A-Shelf, and a scope for Fabutier’s 50 lbs.
  • Any weight for GEMWON, in a field or a bullet.
  • A usable height field for Rev-A-Shelf, whose field reads 19 inches against a stated 3.0.
