How the Five Compare on the Numbers
Seven live pages already rank this pool by mesh density twice, by footprint, by the weight of one strainer, by how many arrive, by the cleaning method and by what comes in the box. Every one of those treats the strainer as a bowl. In a shallow cabinet the bowl is rarely the problem. The handle is, because it sticks out further than anything else on the tool.
Read that way the five separate immediately. JNGBVIX is the only one whose handle comes off, an 11.5-inch metal rod that detaches from a 5.3-inch frame. Tiawudi’s three-piece set is the only one that states its pieces nest. Ninsula, Sunwukin and the single Tiawudi all publish a hanging provision instead, which solves the same problem by leaving the cabinet altogether.
The row that matters most is also the emptiest. Only Sunwukin states an overall length in its own words, at 11 inch. For the rest you are reading a dimension field, and those fields do not say which figure is the handle and which is the bowl. Two listings populate no dimension fields at all, so their shelf requirement has to be inferred from a package size.
The Handle Is What Does Not Fit
One Handle That Comes Off
JNGBVIX publishes a sturdy 11.5-inch removable metal handle and states that it is easy to wash and store. Take it off and what remains is a 5.3-inch diameter round frame and three fabric bags with a stated depth of 10.0 inches, which fold. Nothing else in this pool separates the part that strains from the part that makes it long.
That single design decision is the whole case for it on this page. Every other pick here is one rigid object whose length is fixed at manufacture. A cabinet shelf that will take a 5.3-inch ring will not take a 3.35 inch bowl on an 11 inch stem, even though the second is the smaller strainer by every measure that matters while you are using it.
Three Listings Solve It by Leaving the Cabinet
Ninsula publishes a built-in hanging loop and says it allows storage or suspension above pots, glasses and spice jars. Sunwukin says it is lightweight and compact enough to store in a kitchen cupboard or hang up for easy access. The single Tiawudi publishes a wider hook with 2 rivets, described as being there to avoid slipping.
These are not equivalent claims. A loop is a feature you can hook over a rail. A wider hook with two rivets is a structural statement about the hook not tearing off a loaded strainer. Tiawudi’s is the only one of the three that says anything about how much the hanging provision will bear, and even that is a rivet count rather than a figure.
What Each Listing Publishes and What It Leaves Out
Only One Set Says It Nests
The Tiawudi three-piece colander set states plainly that the colanders can nest together for space saving storage, and it is the only listing in these five to say so. It also publishes the fullest set of figures here: 5-Quart at 11 inches by 4, 4-Quart at 9 1/2 by 3 3/4, and 3-Quart at 8 1/2 by 3 1/4.
Ninsula supplies four strainers at 2.8, 3.2, 3.9 and 4.7 inches and says nothing about nesting. Four strainers that do not nest are four handles laid across a shelf, which is more length than either Tiawudi asks for. Its package figure of 1.7 by 10.6 by 4.2 inches is the only clue to how the four actually pack, and a package is not a cupboard.
The Deep Bowl Is the One That Does Not Fit Anywhere
The single Tiawudi 9 inch strainer publishes a 30 Mesh screen of two tightly woven layers and a deep bowl that the maker says collects more food. One of its dimension fields reads 17.5 in. That is over a foot and a half of tool, and it is the one pick here that a shallow cabinet has no good answer for beyond the hook.
It earns its place because of the mesh. Only two of these five publish a filtration figure at all, and the other is JNGBVIX at 149 micron on a fabric bag. On a page about storage it is worth saying plainly: the pick with the best-documented screen is also the pick with a 17.5 in figure to accommodate.
Reading These Listings Against Each Other
Diameter Is Published, Length Almost Never Is
All five publish a bowl or frame diameter. Only one publishes an overall length in its own sentence. That asymmetry runs right through this pool: makers describe the part that does the work and leave the part that determines storage to a dimension field, or to nothing at all. Two of these five populate no dimension fields.
Where a field exists it is unlabeled. The Sunwukin field triple reads 3.35 by 3.35 by 11.0 inches and the maker’s own bullet says 3.35 inch wide and 11 inch long, so in that one case the field and the sentence agree and the 11.0 is plainly the length. On the Tiawudi 9 inch there is no such sentence to check the 17.5 in against.
Two Listings Publish No Weight at All
JNGBVIX and Ninsula both leave the weight field empty, and neither puts a figure in a bullet. Tiawudi’s three-piece set publishes 1.42 lb, the highest figure among these five, for three nesting baskets. Sunwukin publishes 0.18 lb and the single Tiawudi 0.6 lb, both for one strainer.
That makes weight almost useless as a comparison here. One figure covers three baskets, two cover single tools and two do not exist. If you are hanging a strainer from a rail rather than shelving it, the weight is exactly the number you want, and on the two picks with a published hanging loop it is the number missing.
Which One Fits Your Kitchen
The cabinet with a very low shelf. JNGBVIX. Its 11.5-inch metal handle detaches, leaving a 5.3-inch ring and three fabric bags of 10.0 inches depth that fold flat, and it publishes a 149 micron mesh figure.
The cupboard that has room but not much of it. Tiawudi’s three-piece set. The only listing here that states its baskets nest, with published sizes of 5-Quart, 4-Quart and 3-Quart and full dimensions for each.
The kitchen with a rail rather than a shelf. Ninsula. Four strainers at 2.8, 3.2, 3.9 and 4.7 inches, each with a built-in hanging loop stated for suspension over pots, glasses or spice jars.
The one strainer that has to live in a drawer. Sunwukin. The only pick that publishes its overall length in its own words, 3.35 inch wide by 11 inch long, in 304 stainless steel at 0.18 lb.
The cook who cares about the screen first. Tiawudi’s 9 inch. A 30 Mesh two-layer screen in 18/8 304 steel with a deep bowl and a riveted hook, on a tool with a 17.5 in figure sitting in its dimension fields.
What We Could Not Verify
Everything above is the makers’ own text. These six things I looked for and none of these five publishes.
- An overall length in the maker’s own words for four of the five picks.
- Any nesting or stacking claim except Tiawudi’s three-piece set.
- Any weight at all for JNGBVIX or Ninsula.
- Any mesh or micron figure for Tiawudi’s set, Ninsula or Sunwukin.
- Any load figure for the hanging loops on Ninsula, Sunwukin or the single Tiawudi.
- Whether Ninsula’s four strainers nest, which its package figure only hints at.
