How the Five Compare on the Numbers
The five machines on this sheet split into one vacuum freeze dryer and four heated air dehydrators. The VarmBake publishes a vacuum pump, a cold trap at minus 40 Celsius, and a batch capacity of 13 pounds. The other four publish tray counts, temperature ranges and fan arrangements. That split is the first thing to settle, because it decides what the machine can do rather than how much it holds.
Among the four dehydrators, published capacity arrives in three different units. The JLFTHYLL publishes 10 or 12 trays at up to 1.7 pounds each. The Cosori publishes 6.5 square feet of drying space. The HOPERAN publishes 12 trays at 11 by 8 inches, and the Septree publishes 16 round trays at 14.2 by 14.2 inches. Those units do not convert into one another, so the table below lists each as the maker states it.
The table does not tell you how any of these machines performs. Nobody here has run them. It also does not tell you what a batch weighs on the Cosori, HOPERAN or Septree, because those makers publish tray dimensions instead of a batch weight. And it cannot tell you which machine fits your counter, because the listing publishes a length, a width and a height without saying which is which.
Vacuum Freezing Against Heated Air
What the VarmBake publishes
The VarmBake is the only machine on this sheet published with a vacuum system. Its listing states a vacuum pressure range from 1 kPa down to 5 Pa or less, a pumping speed of 2.2 liters per second, and a cold trap at minus 40 Celsius. Those three figures describe a different process from the other four, which move heated air across trays at ambient pressure.
The same listing publishes a 1048 watt compressor, a noise figure of 60 decibels or below, and a 304 stainless steel chamber with an acrylic visible door and a silicone seal. It also states 6 trays with heating mats, tray spacing of 1.6 inches, and a batch capacity of 13 pounds. The machine is published at 268.3 pounds and requires 220 volts.
What the four dehydrators publish
The JLFTHYLL, Cosori, HOPERAN and Septree all publish rear mounted fans and hot air circulation. The JLFTHYLL states a 360 degree circulation system and a rear fan. The Cosori states a 600 watt motor with a rear mounted drying fan. The HOPERAN states dual 800 watt rear fans. The Septree states dual fans at 1500 watts and adds rotating trays.
None of the four publishes a vacuum pump, a cold trap or a vacuum pressure figure. That is the clearest line on this sheet. If your goal requires a vacuum chamber, only one machine here is published with one. If your goal is drying fruit, jerky or herbs with heated air, the other four are published for that job.
Capacity, Trays and Timers
How capacity is stated
The VarmBake publishes 13 pounds per batch, the only batch weight on the sheet. The JLFTHYLL publishes 10 or 12 trays, each holding up to 1.7 pounds, which would put a full load between 17 and 20.4 pounds if every tray were filled, though the maker does not state a total. The Cosori publishes 6.5 square feet of drying space across 6 trays.
The HOPERAN publishes 12 trays at 11 by 8 inches. The Septree publishes 16 round trays at 14.2 by 14.2 inches. Those two state tray dimensions rather than a total capacity, so a buyer comparing them has to work from tray count and tray size. The CDSMWLJ, which is not among the five picks, publishes 2.2 pounds per layer across 6, 8 or 12 trays.
Timers and temperature control
Published timers vary widely. The JLFTHYLL states 0.5 to 48 hours. The Cosori states up to 48 hours. The HOPERAN states 1 to 24 hours with automatic shut off. The VarmBake and Septree do not publish a timer figure on this sheet, and the VarmBake instead publishes 8 preset food programs on a touchscreen panel.
Published temperature spans also differ. The JLFTHYLL states 86 to 194 Fahrenheit, a 108 degree span. The HOPERAN states 85 to 195 Fahrenheit. The Septree states 70 to 190 Fahrenheit. The Cosori states 95 to 165 Fahrenheit, a 70 degree span. The VarmBake publishes a cold trap temperature rather than a drying range, so it cannot be compared on that row.
Which One Fits Your Kitchen
Buyer who wants vacuum freeze drying. The VarmBake is the only machine here published with a vacuum pump and a cold trap at minus 40 Celsius. It weighs 268.3 pounds and needs 220 volts, so plan the space and the circuit before ordering.
Buyer who wants the most temperature settings. The JLFTHYLL publishes 86 to 194 Fahrenheit, a 108 degree span, with 10 or 12 trays holding up to 1.7 pounds each. It weighs 30.84 pounds and publishes a timer from 0.5 to 48 hours.
Buyer who wants a light machine. The Cosori publishes 18.1 pounds, the lightest of the five, with 6.5 square feet of drying space and a 600 watt motor. It is the easiest of the five to lift onto a counter.
Buyer who wants many trays with dual fans. The HOPERAN publishes 12 trays at 11 by 8 inches and two rear mounted 800 watt fans. It states 45 decibels or below and a 1 to 24 hour timer with automatic shut off.
Buyer who wants rotating trays. The Septree publishes 16 round trays at 14.2 by 14.2 inches that rotate during drying, with 1500 watts and dual fans. Its weight is not published, so confirm that before you plan where it sits.
What We Could Not Verify
Several figures a buyer would want are simply not on this sheet. These are the ones we went looking for and could not source.
- Batch capacity in pounds for the Cosori, HOPERAN and Septree, which publish tray dimensions instead.
- Overall weight for the Septree and the CDSMWLJ, neither of which states one.
- Any dimension at all for the QUGURLID, whose width, depth, height and weight are all unpublished.
- Noise level for the JLFTHYLL and the Septree, which do not state a decibel figure.
- Wattage for the JLFTHYLL and the Cosori, which publish motor or fan details without a total.
- Warranty terms for every machine except the VarmBake, which publishes 3 years.
