How the Five Compare on the Numbers
Sixteen listings sit on the fact sheet for this topic and five are here. Four Listings Say Hand Wash
Wildone states the reason plainly, which the others only imply: the bowls can be cleaned by hand or in the dishwasher, but the lids and graters are hand wash only, because using the dishwasher would deform them. Three other lidded sets in this pool say versions of the same thing, about keeping a seal tight or preventing a plastic cover warping from heat.
That is worth reading before buying a set for a first kitchen, because the lid is the part that makes a mixing bowl into a storage container, and it is therefore the part that gets dirty with marinade and batter. A set of five bowls with five lids is five things in the machine and five things at the sink, and the listings are honest enough to say which is which.
One Set Makes the Lids Out of Glass
Ziruma builds its entire listing on that problem. The lids are glass rather than plastic, stated dishwasher safe, stated not to warp or crack, and the set is described as plastic free so that nothing plastic ever touches the food. The bowls run 1, 2, 2.5, 3.5 and 4.5 quarts with measurement marks inside and non-slip rubber bases underneath.
It trades one failure mode for another and never addresses it. A plastic lid warps and keeps working badly. A glass lid breaks and stops working entirely, and the listing publishes no thickness for the glass. Its size field reads 9.4 inches wide by 5.5 inches high, which can only describe the largest bowl, and no weight is published for the set.
What a First Kitchen Actually Needs
Three Bowls With Jobs Attached
Gronivex does the one thing nobody else in this pool attempts: it says what each bowl is for. The 1.5 quart is given for whisking two to four eggs or melting chocolate, the 2.2 quart for cake batter, marinades or a side salad, and the 3.4 quart for larger tasks. For someone furnishing a kitchen who does not yet know which size they reach for, that is more useful than two extra bowls.

It publishes 1.5 lb for the three and nothing else dimensional. The ceiling is the catch: 3.4 quarts is not a bread dough bowl.

Three grater attachments come with them, and the largest lid has a removable center so a grater sits in it and you grate straight into the bowl. Quarts and liters are engraved inside and stated fade proof, and silicone non-slip bottoms hold the bowl still while you whisk one handed.
That is a genuinely well thought out set and the catch is the one already noted: the lids and the graters are the parts that must be hand washed. It publishes no weight, no diameter and no height for any bowl. For a starter kit, the grater in the lid removes a separate tool from the shopping list, which is exactly the kind of trade a first kitchen wants.
The Big Bowl and the Plain Set
Eight Quarts, and the Only Published Shape
Winco is a single commercial 8 quart bowl and the only pick here that publishes both a diameter and a height: 11.75 inches across, 5.5 inches deep. It is also the only listing that describes its base properly, as silicone covered rather than a silicone ring, stated to keep the bowl from sliding on a countertop, with a reinforced thick rim to stop it bending or warping.
At 1.1 lb it is the lightest published weight of these five and 8 quarts is the largest stated capacity, which tells you something about the gauge whatever the rim adds. Its dishwasher statement is the most specific in the pool, approved for residential and commercial machines separately. It is one bowl: an addition to a set rather than a set.
Nothing to Hand Wash
Cuisinart is the plainest proposition here and on the dishwasher question it wins by default. Three nesting bowls at 1.5, 3 and 5 quarts, no lids, no graters, nothing plastic in the box, so there is nothing that cannot go in the machine. It is also the only pick stated safe in the refrigerator and the freezer as well, which turns a bowl into chilled dough storage without a lid at all.
What it gives up is everything the other sets add. No markings inside, so a measuring jug is still needed. No non-slip base, so the bowl will move on a counter under a stiff mixture. No lids. At 3.9 lb for three bowls it is the heaviest published weight of these five, which on bare stainless is the one figure suggesting a heavier gauge than the sets around it.
Which One Fits Your Kitchen
