How the Five Compare on the Numbers
Sixteen bowls sit on this fact sheet and five of these picks hold the same 8 quarts. What differs is what they weigh and what stops them moving. Published weight runs from 0.88 lb to 3.0 lb for the same capacity, one figure covers two bowls, and one of the five publishes no weight at all.
The two listings that talk about weight take opposite positions. Oggi calls its bowl solidly constructed with a sturdy, weighty feel of quality, and publishes 3.0 lb. Stock Your Home says its bowl is notably lighter than heavier commercial bowls and easy to lift, tilt and maneuver even when full, and publishes no weight anywhere.
What the table cannot tell you is how a full 8 quart bowl behaves on a counter. One of these five publishes a silicone covered base to stop it sliding and one publishes a reinforced rim to stop it flexing. The other three publish neither, and no listing here states a wall thickness or a gauge.
Five Bowls, One Capacity, Four Weights
Point Eight Eight Against Three Pounds
Chef Craft publishes 0.88 lb for one 8 quart bowl with a brushed exterior, and publishes nothing else about handling. Winco publishes 1.1 lb for an 8 quart bowl it describes as commercial grade and heavy duty. Oggi publishes 3.0 lb for an 8 quart bowl and makes a virtue of it. Same capacity, roughly three times the metal.
Great Credentials publishes 1.17 lb and ships two bowls, which would make each bowl lighter than the Chef Craft one. On an 8 quart stainless bowl of 13.25 inches diameter that is not a figure to build on, so this page treats it as a set figure rather than evidence about the metal. Oggi’s 3.0 lb and Chef Craft’s 0.88 lb are the two figures here that clearly describe one bowl each.
The Bowl That Claims to Be Lighter
Stock Your Home makes the most direct handling claim on this page and publishes nothing to check it with. Its bullet states that the bowl is notably lighter than heavier commercial bowls, which makes it easy to lift, tilt and maneuver even when full. There is no weight in any field, bullet or size attribute.
It does publish two things nobody else here does. The first is that the bowl is wide enough to work comfortably with both hands. The second is that both bowls in the two pack nest together for compact storage. Its only figures are a package of 13.25 by 13.25 by 5.4 inches and the 8 quarts each bowl holds.
What Actually Holds the Bowl Still
A Silicone Base and a Reinforced Rim
Winco is the only pick here that publishes something to stop the bowl sliding. Its bullet states a silicone covered base that keeps the mixing bowl from sliding on countertops, and a separate bullet states a thick reinforced rim that provides additional stability and prevents the bowl from bending or warping. Those are two different failures and it names both.
It is also the only listing here to distinguish residential from commercial dishwashers, saying it is approved for both. At 1.1 lb with fields of 11.75 by 11.75 by 5.5 inches it publishes the lowest first figure of the five, which for the same 8 quarts means the volume sits deeper. No other listing here mentions sliding, bending or warping at all.
Rims That Do Different Jobs
Three of the five publish a rim and each publishes it for a different reason. Winco’s thick rim is about stability against bending. Great Credentials states a flat top rim, which is a shape rather than a purpose. Stock Your Home states a wide rim that gives a secure grip, which is the only rim here described as something to hold.
Chef Craft and Oggi publish no rim at all. Chef Craft publishes a brushed exterior finish and Oggi a two tone stainless finish, and both describe those as suiting a kitchen’s decor. On an 8 quart bowl that gets lifted full, a finish is the least load bearing thing a listing can offer. Oggi does publish its other sizes, at 1.5, 3, 5 and 8 quarts.
Where the Diameters Disagree
One Listing Measures Itself
Great Credentials is the only pick that publishes its own dimensions in words. Its bullet gives a diameter of 13.25 inches, a height of 5 inches and a volume capacity of 8 quarts, in that order and with each figure labeled. Every other listing here leaves the axes to a dimension field. Its published package figure of 13.25 by 13.25 by 4.25 inches matches the diameter and not the height.
Chef Craft’s fields read 13.25 by 13.25 by 5.0 inches, which is the same diameter and the same height stated in words by Great Credentials. Winco’s read 11.75 by 11.75 by 5.5 inches and Oggi’s 12.25 by 12.25 by 5.75 inches. Three different diameters for one capacity, and a bowl of the same volume in a smaller circle has to be deeper.
Thirteen and a Quarter Inches, Four Times
The figure 13.25 appears on four listings in this pool and not always as the same thing. Chef Craft publishes it as a dimension field. Great Credentials publishes it as a diameter in words and again in a package figure. Stock Your Home publishes it twice in a package figure, and a fifth listing in this pool publishes the same figure again.
That is probably one bowl shape sold under several names, which for a buyer choosing on handling is worth knowing. The figures that separate them are the weight and what each maker says about the rim and the base, and on those two things these listings do not agree at all. One publishes a silicone base, three publish a rim, and two publish a finish.
Which One Fits Your Kitchen
A base that will not slide. Winco, an 8 quart bowl at 1.1 lb and 11.75 by 11.75 by 5.5 inches with a silicone covered non-slip base, a thick reinforced rim against bending, and dishwasher approval for residential and commercial machines.
A rim you can actually grip. Stock Your Home, two 8 quart bowls with a wide rim stated to give a secure grip, wide enough to work with both hands, nesting together for storage and dishwasher safe, with no published weight anywhere.
The lowest published figure here. Chef Craft, a single 8 quart bowl at 0.88 lb and 13.25 by 13.25 by 5.0 inches with a brushed exterior and dishwasher safe cleaning, and no rim or base feature published at all.
Weight sold as quality. Oggi, an 8 quart two tone stainless bowl at 3.0 lb and 12.25 by 12.25 by 5.75 inches, described as solidly constructed with a sturdy weighty feel, and offered in 1.5, 3, 5 and 8 quart sizes.
Dimensions in the maker’s own words. Great Credentials, two 8 quart bowls with a flat top rim, a published diameter of 13.25 inches and a height of 5 inches, in polished stainless steel, at 1.17 lb for the pair.
What We Could Not Verify

- No listing publishes a wall thickness or a steel gauge.
- Great Credentials publishes 1.17 lb for two 8 quart stainless bowls.
